This subject provides you a basic overview of how two different systems can communicate with each other regardless of their place, size and physical characteristics. It also explains how different hardware like switch, router, bridges, NIC cards play their role in computer networks. This subject contains the functionalities of the first three layers of OSI reference model viz, the Physical layer, Data link layer & Network layer.
